ABOUT US

Our Experience

Eric has over 20 years’ experience in operating heavy equipment and construction. Summers and afternoons spent working in a relative’s construction business as a teenager set Eric on his journey at a young age. Truth be told, he could run an excavator before he could legally drive!

While Alana’s background is in business and Information Technology, she is no stranger to manual labor. She does a lot of work behind the scenes on bookkeeping, scheduling, and procurement, but you will also see her “working the tools” and she will be front and center in making sure you are happy with your project every step of the way!

Our failed attempt at recreating American Gothic.

Our Values

Simply put, we treat our customers the way we would like to be treated.  We have been on the receiving end of no-show appointments, phone calls not returned, and generally unprofessional behavior; we have vowed to do better. This means a few things:

    • We always return phone calls within 24 hours.
    • We show up when we say we will or we let you know as soon as possible and let you know when to expect us.
    • If we come to give you a free estimate and determine the job is not something we can do, we let you know rather than leaving you waiting for a call.
    • We always work under contract, but you are never rushed to sign. We will email you a contract that contains a detailed scope of work and price to review at your leisure before signing.
    • We do not engage in high-pressure sales. We realize property improvements are a big expense and you need time to think about a proposal and get other estimates. Since emails sometimes end up in spam, we always follow up once by text or phone call to make sure you received an emailed proposal.  Beyond that, the ball is in your court.
    • We only work one project at a time. Have you ever had a 3-day job take 3 weeks? Many contractors have a fear of missing out on sales.  They will take on multiple jobs at a time and bounce from job to job to make an appearance.  It may take us slightly longer to start your project, but once we start, you have our guarantee that your project will have our full attention until it’s complete!

What our customers say

Frequently Asked Questions

“Hood & Him???” “Hoff & Hem???” “Hook & Hand???”  No, it’s Hoof & Hen. “How did you come up with your name?” is one of the most common questions we are asked.  It’s no secret.  Before we started our business in 2020, we had already established our small hobby farm: Hoof & Hen Farm.  Since many of the skills we employ on our farm are needed by property owners, we named our business Hoof & Hen Land Services. I guess you could call Eric the Hoof and Alana the Hen…but Alana doesn’t much like being a Hen.

We do most of the work ourselves, Eric and Alana, that means you will always have a fully vested business owner on your jobsite.  We are very particular about who we hire and, while we may occasionally hire an extra hand, we will never bring someone onto your property that we would not invite into our own home.  We do not tolerate drug use at any time or alcohol consumption on the jobsite.  You will not have to cover your children’s ears against foul language while we are there, and you will not have to pick up cigarette butts and trash after we are gone.

For certain projects such as land clearing and other dirt work, we may be able to give you a ballpark estimate while we are there and then follow up with a detailed estimate via email.  For fencing and decks, we will take measurements, discuss your wants and needs with you, and email you a detailed estimate within a few days.  Our estimates will be sent to you on our letterhead in a PDF file that contains our contact information, our Arkansas Contractors Licensing Board assigned license number, a detailed description of services to be performed, a diagram and materials list if applicable, the projected cost, the projected down payment amount.  If you accept our bid, this information along with any modifications will be transferred to a contract.

We would love to take weekends off, but that is often not possible.  Our work is largely weather-dependent, and we often must work on clear weekends to stay on schedule.  However, we realize that weekends, especially Sundays, are a special family time for many of our clients.  We never show up on a Sunday without first confirming with you that our presence will not be disruptive.

We accept cash, check, ACH, and credit/debit cards.

Yes. We hold a current Arkansas Residential Home Improvement license for jobs under $50,000. Our license number is:    0402960724.  Our license is valid with no violations.  When it comes to licensing, you should not take any contractor’s word for the validity or existence of their license.   Always, call the Arkansas Contractors Licensing Board at 501-372-4661 to verify!

We carry a Workers Compensation policy as required by Arkansas state law.  We also carry a $1 million general liability policy and will provide a current certificate of coverage at your request.

We are bondable. The subject of bonds is a confusing one. There are many types of bonds and not all are applicable to every situation.  We could go out a buy a $1,000 fidelity bond (that insures against employee theft and fraud), pay $100 for it, say we are bonded, and most consumers would be none the wiser.  The type of bond a property owner who is looking to hire a contractor should be concerned about is called a “performance bond” which guarantees the contractor will perform the work according to the conditions of the contract and will not run off with your down payment.   Most performance bonds are issued for larger jobs and for specific jobs.
